Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. Since her father's departure the family, it was managed by her mom, grandmother as well as godparents. As a child, Ford suffered anxiety due to an obsessional disorder. Ford began to be fascinated by acting at the age of teenager and joined the National Youth Theatre. She was accepted into Sylvia Young Theatre School but after a week, she decided that she wasn't a good fit. Ford applied instead for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and was eventually offered a position on her fourth attempt. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler in Doctor Who. Ford completed her degree in 1993 however at the time she was already making her TV debut on the 1991 season in the show Surgical Spirit; she adopted the professional name "Catherine Tate". Tate began her TV debut in 1991, appearing on shows like The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. The regular theatre work she performed led her to join The Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 season. But Tate quickly began gaining attention for her stand-up comic, which she added to her resume in the year 1996.
